Wilhelm Kraft was only 18 years old when he designed his first eyeglass frames. He thus completes his apprenticeship and begins his quest for perfect frames for every situation.
Throughout his life, he will be captivated by the passion for pretty details, innovative technology and the best materials.
Until 1938 he worked for the Stuttgart-based eyewear company Marwitz and Hauser and was responsible for organizing the production of rolled gold metal frames.
With their expertise, they were able to transform the complex and complex production method into an efficient and rapid steel frame manufacturing process.
At Marwitz and Hauser, he met Elsa Wolf, the woman of his life, with whom he founded the first generation of the Kraft family of opticians.
Wilhelm Kraft experiences times of change and transition, experiencing restrictions as well as new possibilities. These experiences allow him to think about tradition and craftsmanship in a new and modern way.
In 1947, 20 years after making his first frame, he passed the master optician craftsman exam and created his masterpiece. A pair of glasses combining all his know-how with the material available at the time and his new vision of traditional craftsmanship.
The Kraft family of opticians is now in its third generation. Andreas, the grandson, returned to his grandfather’s visions and founded Willems Eyewear in 2011 to preserve this tradition. This is how he elevates the old principles to a new level:
